The Ruger LCP (Lightweight Compact Pistol) is a “pocket pistol” chambered in 380 ACP. This was Sturm, Ruger & Company’s first major foray into the Concealed Carry/Personal Defense markets, as the firm’s other handguns have long been known for their large size and weight. With its fiberglass frame and sub-3 inch barrel, the LCP weighs 9 ounces, unloaded. The magazine has a capacity of 6 rounds. The basic model is blued steel components with a black frame. However, Ruger makes stainless steel versions and a variety of different colored frames.

The Ruger LCP used in this test was one of these special editions, made for the distributor: TALO Ltd. This version featured a stainless steel engraved slide, with a gold inlay of Ruger’s iconic eagle. The sights like all those found on the LCP are fixed and molded into the slide.

Although it never pretends to be a match-grade pistol, its accuracy is acceptable. Recoil feels harsh on this pistol and the trigger pull is severe. This is not a pistol to take to the range if the shooter wants to enjoy shooting. Although the shooter of an LCP should seek to become proficient with it; small pistols like this are carried often and shot rarely.
