This unique gun has created quite a stir among handgun enthusiasts. Some hate it, some love it. Put me in the latter category. The main attribute of the Italian-made Chiappa Rhino that has polarized everyone is that the barrel is aligned with the bottom cylinder chamber. (See the 2nd photo.) ย This was done to reduce recoil and muzzle flip. The gun has certainly succeeded in this respect – it is very easy on the hands, and provides the shooter with more accurate follow-up shots due to the almost-non-existent flip. As for easy on the eyes… well that, as they say, is in the eye of the beholder ๐Ÿ™‚ The 2-inch barrel Rhino you see here gives new meaning to the term “snub-nose.” The longer-barrel Rhinos are equally unique looking – I’d say they have more of a futuristic look to them. I own the 2-inch for ease of carry. You’ll notice the cylinder is a hexagon. The flat sides furthers comfort and conceal-ability. This particular gun is chambered in .357 Magnum, and is double-action only. When I first saw the 2-inch, I thought, “Wow, what an ugly gun!” The more I saw it, the more I liked it. Remember when you saw the Pug dog breed for the first time? Yea, it was kinda like that… UPDATE: Some new (larger) grips are now available from Chiappa. I’ve included a photo of one that I customized a bit with matte black color.
